The Endocannabinoid System uses Endocannabinoids which our body manufactures internally (Endogenously) to signal ECS receptors. Fortunately nature has also provided us with an EXOGENOUS (external) source called Cannabinoids – found in the Cannabis Sativa Plant.
CANNABINOIDS
Cannabinoids are a group of 110+ active chemical compounds which interact with specific CB1 and CB2 receptors throughout the body (see ECS Chart presented on the previous page about the Endocannabinoid System).
Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) - more commonly called Marijuana - is both the best known Cannabinoid as well as the only psychoactive one. It should be noted that when concentrations of THC are less-than-point-three-percent (<.3%) in a Cannabis Plant, it is called Hemp and produces no "high" effects.
In fact, Cannabidiol (CBD) the second best known Cannabinoid, is the major compound found in Hemp and has been the subject of significant scientific research to determine potential therapeutic benefit. It should also be noted the acronym CBD is used to represent a broader range of products that most often include compounds other than Cannabidiol. This is a very important point to remember because some of these “CBDs” can contain widely-differing concentrations of THC.
Full-Spectrum Hemp Oil CBDs are Products containing ALL of the 110+ Cannabinoids (THC, CBD and 100+ others) from the Plant’s profile and generally contain higher levels of CBD and much smaller amounts of THC and other cannabinoids. Full-Spectrum Products cause an entourage effect in which the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.
Broad-Spectrum CBDs contain the full-spectrum extract but without THC. Isolates are CBDs containing Cannabidiol only.
